Please correct me if I am wrong, but as far as I know the Streaming
API only delivers public statuses. So you would miss the updates of
friends who protected their tweets.

recently I experience long delays (several hours) until a new status
of friends appears in the response of a statuses/friends call. The
users/show call for these friends already delivers the new tweet. This
