i use an image content element and set width to 160 and height to 120. as
long as the images have an aspect ratio of 4:3 or 3:4 everything is fine.

This won't help you with the columnnames, but to make it very easy for a
normal BE user you could make an Action for it.
Make Actions at the root level of the tree (in the globe), assign them
to BE users.
They will find the Action in their Task Center.
