Got it!
I tried first on my local machine and it was as easy as 1, 2, 3! My only
concern is that the DB becomes quite large.
Still I would be happier running two DB's on one T3, but export/import is
a solution anyway.

Typo3 4.1.1 contains 3225 files and 266 dirs. Let's focus in one folder.
I do prefer to replace 12 or 24 (even 48) files at /typo3/ instead of the
