Yes there is. You should avoid modifying core files, because you will
loose your changes when you upgrade your TYPO3.
You should make the change in a TypoScript template in your site, in the
constants field. So that would be:

In particular you need to set up the "defaultLanguageISOCode" property,
otherwise sr_language_menu will assume your default language is English,

and replace your online version with than one (backup first :-)

abase Analyzer and run a "Compare". I'm pretty sure the tool will
find things to fix in your database.
