Hi Stig,
I've checked and it's off. I'm afraid my hosting provider won't be
willing to turn it on. I will try to persuade him.
Is there another workaround for this problem - tweaking T3 install tool,
etc..

Had the exactly same problem with tc_directmail and multiply domains in
one installation. Check if allow_url_fopen is enabled in php.ini.
