On update of TYPO3 from 4.5.0 to 4.5.3 strange thing happened - backend become
blank.
No errors in PHP nor in Apache logs, SQL and BE debug are silent as well.
typo3temp and temp_CACHED... were cleared as well.
Compression is set to false:
$TYPO3_CONF_VARS['FE']['compressionLevel'] = 'fal

Is there any reason why you upgraded recently from 4.5.0 to 4.5.3 and
not 4.5.10 [1]?
