Another issue I can across a while ago, if you are using UV in a Windows machine, it
will not acknowledge printers with a space in the name. I had to replace the space
with _ .
Just a thought.

Just discovered an extract from the UniVerse FAQ for the mailing list.
Clif, you supplied the extract, do you still have the FAQ?
Could we add it to the FAQ on the U2UG site please?
thanks,

Jerry, Lloyd is providing specific information for AIX. That advice does
not apply to Solaris at all. AIX manages printers in a completely different
way to any other UNIX variant I know of.
Cheers,
It sounds like you may need to resotore your &DEVICE& file from your
original system. Another file I always backup before an upgrade is the
UV.ACCOUNT file.
Both files exist in the UV directory. You don't say if your running on a
Unix or Windows system. My experience is only with Unix systems.

Device licensing works with Wintegrate & the free version of directconnect

those, most 3rd party clients do not have access to it.

Louis,
In AIX a user needs to have the group printq added to their account. This will allow
them to access all the print queues and to manage them. I do not use Universe but
Unidata. And from there we enter shell commands to manage the spool queue.

Yes, but isn't there a higher cost involved if you want Enterprise?
I guess the point is, do you want to pay for device licensing or get it
free? Just a thougth.

Go to Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Computer Management\Local

Device licensing is also in Enterprise licensing and this goes over 25

Um... Found a couple typo's in my code.
first, I was connecting to a windows machine that knows not what userdel is...
second, I did not add the -c after SH so it just would not work until I did that.
third, the full path of the command is required. Probably a good idea to always do

You should be able to get IBM to do this for you. However, keep in mind if
you combine the licenses to one 40 user license you will lose device
licensing. If I remember correctly the cutoff point for Work Group is 25
users.

Before you jump to conclusions:
- The thread you cite is about R83, not AP.
- That thread mentions scrambling, but they're talking about the encrypted
serial number, not the system scrambling anything on the floppy.
- The R83 floppies discussed there, if I'm not mistaken, are 5 1/4 inch
floppies.
can't you use the command object and send the command "SH -c 'userdel
userid'" or something alike ??
otherwise you can always make a BASIC subroutine to do the work and then
call that routine from uniobjects
