Does Unidata have the $OPTIONS clause in it's basic?
If it does, then it might be better to find which options you needed
in your program that are type U specific, and what the $OPTIONS
setting is. and keep the program running in type P, with just one
part that acts like type U.

knowledge of pick basic. I had not declared my
subroutine properly on its first line (in fact I had
not declared it at all).

I don't know of any difference in common between the BASICTYPEs, and
