Or have a rule that says "dates passed to UniVerse subroutines must *ALWAYS* be in internal format", and enforce the rule for external (UniObjects) callers as well as internal (UV). This makes date formatting a user-interface issue rather than a back-end problem. You will of course need a conversion routine, but that's almost trivial.
