[ Apologies for multiple postings ] ************************************************************ CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
SUM 2009: Third International Conference on Scalable Uncertainty Management http://wwwinfo.deis.unical.it/~apugliese/SUM2009 September 28-30, 2009 University of Maryland, Washington DC, USA ************************************************************ We are pleased to invite you to participate in third edition of the International Conference on Scalable Uncertainty Management (SUM 2009). The previous editions, SUM 2007 and SUM 2008, were held in Washington DC, USA, and in Naples, Italy, respectively. A large amount of available data nowadays includes uncertain, imprecise, and inconsistent information. The possibility of integrating and exploiting these data calls for sound and efficient techniques for managing uncertainty and handling inconsistency. These issues, which have been traditionally addressed within the Artificial Intelligence community, already play a key role in fields like databases or the semantic Web. The annual International Conference on Scalable Uncertainty Management, grown out of this large interest in uncertainty and inconsistency, aims at bringing together all those interested in the management of uncertainty and inconsistency at large, fostering the collaboration and cross-fertilization between the reasoning under uncertainty community and the databases and semantic Web communities. ************************************************************ PROGRAM & REGISTRATION The list of accepted papers can be consulted in http://wwwinfo.deis.unical.it/~apugliese/SUM2009/accepted.htm. A preliminary program can also be found at http://wwwinfo.deis.unical.it/~apugliese/SUM2009/program.htm The program includes the following two invited speakers: - Amol Deshpande (University of Maryland, USA) “PrDB: Managing large-scale correlated probabilistic databases” - Thomas Lukasiewicz (Oxford University, UK; TU Vienna, Austria) “Uncertainty in the Semantic Web” Early registration fee: USD 250 (until Sept 1th) https://intranet.umiacs.umd.edu/conferences/sum2009/reg.htm ************************************************************ ORGANIZATION General Chairs: Henri Prade (IRIT, France) V.S.
