I just tried this using Orca master + Gedit 3.36.2 and Pluma 1.24 in
Fedora 32 and am not seeing a crash.

Hi Mike.

It looks like in the latest gedit, F7 fails to do anything -- whether
Orca is running or not. It's still listed as the shortcut next to the
menu item, however. So I'd call that a gedit bug and would file

It was actually a Feisty Herd 5 CD. Feisty has since been officially
released and you can get a live CD from

I've also seen where the "external synthesizer" being on causes
problems. If you have a setting for "external synthesizer" and are not
actually using an external synthesizer, try muting it.
Take care.

Hi Kenny.
If you build the latest version of VTE from svn trunk and are still
having the problem, I would be happy to compare notes with you.
Take care.

Hi Keith, all.
gnome-terminal in Feisty did have some crashing issues, not to mention
some accessibility issues when using it with Orca. *As far as I can
tell*, the crashes were fixed in the most recent release of VTE (0.15.2)

Hi Keith.
Rich fixed this recently. If you grab the latest Orca from SVN trunk,
you should be able to access the buddy list.
Hope this helps.

There is a filter text box. It seems to gain focus automatically when
the Control Center window is first opened. So type "sound" and then tab
to the sounds button.

Hi Al.
I had to do something similar: my /usr/lib/libespeak.so.1 pointed
to /usr/lib/libespeak.so.1.1.18, but /usr/lib/libespeak.so pointed
to /usr/lib/libespeak.so.1.1.15. Once I changed that, I was able to
build gnome-speech (prior to that, make exits with an error).

Hi Krister, all.
I just did a clean install of Edgy, then dist-upgraded to Feisty. No
errors. The only thing I can think of is that I uncommented all
repositories in my /etc/apt/sources.list.
Take care.

Methinks not all live CDs are created equal. The live CD I grabbed a
week or two ago from ubuntu.com/download works just fine. However,
given these reports, I just gave it another go using the image from the
mirror at Argonne. That image seems to lack the accessibility options.

I think you're done. The functionality provided via the most recent
patch (i.e. the one in which Caps Lock gets restored when you quit Orca)
works very nicely. Thanks for doing it!

I agree that this would make the most sense. As Luke pointed out, there
are so many different layouts (not to mention so many different users).

Funny you should ask. Yesterday afternoon, I added some docs to

I *believe* this is a known issue that is still being worked on as there

Hey Al.
Give Sound Juicer CD Extractor a try. Ignore the app's name: It lets
you *play* CDs too. And it works very nicely with Orca.
Hope this helps.

Hi all. I just tried the 64-bit live CD of Edgy Knot 2. I wasn't all
that thorough in my testing, but Orca *seems* to be working as I would
expect. From this, can I make any assumptions about the
gnome-speech/Bonobo activation issues being solved? (If I missed an
announcement somewhere, my apol

Hi all.
Henrik, this is awesome! Thanks for doing it!!
Minor suggestions:
1. Include a statement about the current need to use a *32-bit* Live CD
rather than the 64-bit one.
2. Under step 4 (exploring the Ubuntu menus) and/or step 5 (installing
Ubuntu), perhaps mention the relevant command jus

Hi all. I just gave this a try. I can confirm Al's findings. And it
seems to occur any time you resize the window (e.g. if it's maximized
and you unmaximize it, the problem also occurs).
