To simplify, obviously. The more elements you add to a system, the slower
and more unstable it gets. It would be awesome if Metacity could handle all
the stuff we have Compiz do now, though it should obviously scan the
computer's hardware on first boot to see what level of effects it can
handle.

compatible with almost any hardware and supports software rendering (so it

why would we need opengl backend for metacity? we have compiz for that,
while people who doesnt have a hardware to enable compiz, still can have
nice shadows, and basic things. this is a good workaround for them.
