Hi Stephen,
I have a CyberPower UPS which has Linux software to cleanly shutdown my

Just to reiterate a comment I made to this thread previously. Are you
sure the APN is not telstra.internet?? There is a difference between
modems sold by Telstra and those sold by Big Pond. If you bought it at a
Telstra shop it will be a Telstra one with an APN of telstra.internet

Hi Geoffrey,
just a stupid question as I may have missed the beginning of this
thread. But did you get the modem from Big Pond or from Telstra? You may
say that these are the same company, but I have found that if you get
the modem directly from Telstra the APN to use may be telstra.internet

Hi Geoffrey,
I have a Canon MX350 printer which I managed to get working by
downloading drivers for Linux from the Canon web site. I checked the web
site and there are drivers for your printer, but I notice that they only
have rpms.
There is a program called alien that converts rpms to deb files.
Hi folks,
I was concerned about the Unity desktop for use by PC beginners, but
having used it for a while now I find it is not as bad as previously
discussed on this forum.
However, I find one behaviour which would be confusing for beginners.
Opening documents by double-clicking on them causes th
This issue concerns me greatly as I have spent the past few years
converting beginners frustrated with Windows crashing, virus attacks and
other concerns to the peaceful, stable world of Ubuntu.
As beginners they would have no idea of how to change back to Gnome if
they don't like Unity, and as pe

Problem disappeared today by itself. Go figure!! Can only assume
everything set itself right by shutting down rather than restarting.

I have had no problems connecting other than poor signal sometimes,
which Ubuntu doesn't indicate.
What plan are you on? If you are using prepaid you have to edit the
Three connection in Network Manager and change the APN to 3services. It
does not set it up that way automatically.

Hi Folks,
after upgrading to Intrepid my Evolution often will not offer to open
attachments with the right application, i.e. only offers to save the
attachment. I see that on Launchpad this bug has already been logged and
it is supposedly fixed on 16/10/2008.
My question is, how long does a fix
