I don't think Kies is actually necessary for much. Only thing it might be for is firmware updates, but S2 should come with 2.3 Android which has over-the-air self-update functionality. Otherwise, Ubuntu by default covers all of the needs of media sharing - something Windows doesn't, which is why th
