Compiles from source fine on my edgy desktop (no major
modifications/changes), however, in prevu it fails with:

You should find either Martin Pitt or Kees Cook on IRC and see if they
are willing to prepare a security patch for Dapper's heartbeat-2
package. Backports cannot handle this.

If you want a full version of 2.0.7, backports is really the only sane
way to go, but it sounds like it has build deps that cannot be
satisfied. :(
If you want the security fixes, you can prepare and test a debdiff
against the current version in Dapper with only the security patches,
then Martin
