Sorry if I didn't articulate myself well, but I wasn't looking for support. I
was just trying to make sure I had the same combination of packages installed
so I could help diagnose the problem.
I'm on i386, and I was following a separate howto that suggested I
install nspluginwrapper to so
I apologize if this is the wrong way to respond to a bug like this but I
figured it would be helpful and I didn't really know the correct
procedure.

rdiff-backup (1.1.15-1) has a serious bug that keeps me from reliable
backups. Often, when a previous backup hasn't been finished (due to
network failure), rdiff-backup will crash on subsequent backups.
It's a bug that according to the author, has been fixed in 1.1.16:

I've build it with prevu and installed it, it starts, but there are some
issue: sometimes menus and terrain textures aren't visible...maybe this
are known problem of the beta?

Ack for ubuntu-backporters.
Please be careul about using PPA revision numbers lower than the
official backport. You got it right in this case, but generally I use
something like 0.6-0ubuntu1~hardy1~ppa1 to be clear about it. The
official backport will be 0.6-0ubuntu1~hardy1.
