[Bug 480545] [NEW] memcached hopelessly out of date

2009-11-11 Thread dormando
Public bug reported: The version of memcached bundled with ubuntu 9.04 was 1.2.2. This version is over three years old and is loaded with bugs and absent of many useful features. Forward versions of memcached are backwards compatible. It would be *very nice* to have the latest release, 1.4.3,

[Bug 480547] [NEW] memcached pretty darn out of date.

2009-11-11 Thread dormando
Public bug reported: Hello, While not as horrifyingly out of date as 9.04, the memcached bundled with 9.10 is over six months old, and at this point has been eclipsed by newer versions with many new features and bug fixes. It would be fantastic if the backports for karmic could include memcached

Let's handle the two together: Doing a quick build test: Karmic's version backports cleanly to Jaunty and appears to work in my initial testing. Lucid's version backports cleanly to Karmic. Lucid's version does not backport to Jaunty because of pbuilder- satisfydepends-dummy: Depends: quilt

Hi, As i was confronted again today to the need to install Office 3 to some users (who could do it easily on MSWin, but not on Ubuntu), i wondered if there was a place where the previously-available build could be retrieved ? Reinstalling a whole OS or manually fixing the common upgrade problem

Hey, thanks for the quick response! If you can give me a few basic commands to run or look into I can play with it on some VM's today. pbuilder something something and some wiki pages is what I have so far. I know debian alright but not ubuntu as specific. I don't see why there would be a quilt

I took a quick look at the package... Undoing that is going to require editng the upstream source. Which I think isn't necessary for this backport. I'll work with the upstream maintainer to get his two nitpicky unfiled bugs fixed further upstream, and in two months we could kick jaunty up to 1.4.

Right; the Debian maintainer added a quilt dependency. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Prevu The Prevu tool is my perferred tool for quickly testing backports. After doing prevu-init's for Karmic and Jaunty, run prevu memcached/lucid to backport Lucid's version to the currently running distribution, or
