Well, what you can do in that case is to download the modemmanager
package from here first: http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/modemmanager
(i386 or amd64). Then if the test fails, you will be able to revert by
running in a terminal "dpkg -i modemmanager_xxx.deb" without a network
connection.
