Confirmed this, kaffeine in -backports replaces kaffeine-xine.
Kubuntu-desktop now reccomends kaffeine.
Shouldn't the kaffeine Provide kaffeine-xine in circumstances like

Kees, for rar this is true, however, it needs a small modification to
use the statically linked binary (as we found out in debian!) the
package rar-3.7b1-2 in debian has the neccessary changes.

As John's stated, it's not possible to backport firefox without
backporting a lot of different applications with it.
These applications depend on having certain versions of system libraries
in certain places.

Ok, so - well - I'm currently backporting KDE 3.5.1 ... it's a pain in the
ass- but we're getting there.
Anyways - it's a big job for one person - is anyone else out there willing
to help me test backports?
