I’ve been getting this crash for a while on my Karmic machine (though I
think I might have gotten it earlier). The thing is, though, it crashes
_with_ an error, activating Apport and everything. Is there a bug filed

Is the compat-wireless stack the same as the old madwifi drivers? If it
is I don't think this will do me any good. On Hardy/Intrepid I ran
always on the latest SVN version of those drivers and crashes were quite
frequent there. No instant lock up, but a after a while (hour or 2) it
would lock up

I've got the same problem with Ubuntu 9.10 alpha4.
Tracing the network with wireshark reveals that no packet is sent.
