I agree with Dries on the coloring of the "be".
It kinda looks like we get support from the government...
Here's a variation with the Belgian colors like Koen did it.

I attached 'another' small variation on the logo. I made this because:
- I also advise on not to use the governmental coloring of the 'be'.
- I really like the Ubuntu icon made by Koen.

Here another variation of your 2d example, using Inkscape.
The "be" is a bit smaller than "ubuntu".
When the new font is available, we just have to change eventually the
"e".
