When I open files with a path that contains one of the non-english
characters æ, ø or å, OpenOffice fails with the message:
/absolute/path/to/file/with/an/ø does not exist. This happens for the
Writer, Calc and Impress components.

You are right. I started a guest session and to my surprise the file
opened. So now I am really stumped but this is clearly not a bug in
openoffice. Thanks.

For some reason OpenOffice is not able to access files with non-english

user on the same computer, so it has to be something in my

I have exactly the same problem, and actually reported a duplicate bug.
However, it turned out that the problem was not reproduced when I logged
into a different user account on the same computer. Have you tried
this?
For me at least the problem must be due to the configuration of my own
user

As pointed out by Lightbreeze, metacity does allow scrolling through the
workspaces with mousewheel over the panel applet. But, it is still a
bad idea, please don't follow metacity on that.
This is a fundamental usability problem:
1. It is fairly easy to accidentally scroll the mouse wheel,

I think maybe you used the option wrongly, here is my line from fstab.
(exept I made it a bit more anonymous)

(this is supposed to be one line in fstab)

Today I had the first freeze on the fresh kernel, 2.6.24-21-386. It
lasted 4 minutes as usual.

After two days with no freezes, it came back just now with three freezes
within 15 minutes.
There was a cronjob entry recorded immediately after the freeze first
freeze, but not for the second or the third freeze.
Here are more detail about the timing:
1. freeze: 17:16 - 17:21:00
2. freeze:
after starting dosbox, the freezes stopped, at least for the last 2.5
hours.
Please tell me what other information I could provide.

I just had a new freeze showing that:
7) booting with pci=routeirq has no effect
This time the freeze happened just after a cronjob entry in syslog.

I landed here when I was googling for a way to turn off the mousewheel
control of the workspace-switcher. I am using a laptop and the sudden
workspace shifting is pretty annoying. Since it seems there is no way
to turn this off, I have to say this feature is terribly bug-like...

I can also confirm the bug on feisty. It seems to be triggered from
scrolling within kdvi. I have not noticed similar behaviour in evince.
