Yes, karmic does not have vol_id indeed, that's a very good reason to do
a backport of 0.0.18 into karmic. I'll personally work on this within
the next 2 weeks.

since in my tests they are not necessary to build the package (tested on
i386). Please verify this and make the necessary changes.
