Thanks for the detailed explanation. I don't have this problem on
Quantal. If I drag the icon out of the launcher and downwards, the
horizontal line appears right above the workspace switcher as expected.
Leaving the launcher icon at that spot puts it right above the switcher.
There's a chance
This is normal, and expected. Since the icon is above the launcher, it
displays empty space instead of a horizontal line.
However, the designers might want to change that since it's somewhat
misleading in this case.

Retrace failed since this is a PPA package from the webapps preview PPA.
You'd either need to debug and retrace the crash manually, or tell us
when and how it happened so one of us can try reproducing it. What were
you doing at the time of the crash? Are you able to use gdb and follow
the steps
The stacktrace is missing a key line. This could probably be because the
problem you're experiencing is with a third-party PPA. Can you confirm
if this happens with Quantal repo packages too?

The notification comes up randomly in my case. Most of the time it
doesn't pop up, but on some random unmounts, it does.
Gvfs and Nautilus handle this part as far as I know.
