It appears that the installer leaves my current network configuration in an incorrect state. When the problem is present, on booting, it logs in my own network for a few seconds, then it reverts to ask "wireless authentication required" when you input the password, it logs again for a few seconds and then it returns to ask the same question. I deleted my own network, reboot, added it back again and it resolved this problem.
