Yeah I checked Rhythmbox and it uses the same Gstreamer elements as
Banshee for its volume control. Are you sure the volume on the GUI for
Banshee controls the same element's volume to that which is used by
Pulse in GVC, Pavucontrol. There are many places in the pipeline where

Okay firstly Pulseaudio will try to restart automatically if it dies for any
reason. You can disable this by setting the autospawn = no in
/etc/pulse/client.conf. You should not really want to do this.
So what you are telling me it seems the indicator thinks it has a valid
sink when pulse

If you do a 'killall indicator-sound-service' from terminal this will
restart the sound service which drives the sound indicator.
Can you tell me if when pulse is down if the indicator icon is hollowed
out ? And when you restart pulse does this icon change to one which
reflects the current volume

The speaker volume screenshot shows the state where no sinks available
while the other one shows one where there are sinks available. When the
icon shows a no sinks available state you should check the hardware tab
to see if there is a valid device found.

tab. I would guess it shows dummy output which would mean that

Hi again,
I just cannot reproduce this. On either 32bit or 64bit. And nobody else seems
to have this issue :(.
If you go use gnome-volume-settings does this show the device as being muted ?
