After creating an xorg.conf file and modifying /etc/pam.d/common-auth,,
pressing return is no longer necessary.
However, the fingerprint scanner just plain does not work with some
things, gnome-screensaver and gksudo being two of them.
This is with an up to date ubuntu 8.10 install on a Lenovo

proprietary drivers (from a package) on my T61 (6460-7EU)
