Same problem here (since 2005!) It is one of the main reasons why I can
not rely on Ubuntu w/ Evolution in a Microsoft dominated environment.
Stability and performance are main usability factors. If it was me, I
would invest into these two factors before making the user interface
more eye candy.

For Feisty this librvp does not work. Debian released a patch for Gaim 2
beta 6 only a few days ago. Wonder if this works.
I'd like to use Gaim for Exchange Server messaging, as I am using Ubuntu
on my company laptop.

Found a workaround - one which I don't like:
1) find out which proxy url we define in our *.pac file (just open the URI of
the configuration file in your browser)
2) Go to System - Preferences - Network Proxy
3) Select Manual proxy configuration
4) enter proxy URL and Port
5) click on Details

Seems that bug is fixed meanwhile.
I had to re-install herd 4 today, visited the same web site, but now
application shows the Totem Browser Plugin (however - I still need to figure
out how to play AAC MP4 files with the Totem).
