When I open a new tab in gnome-terminal (using shift-control-t), it
attempts to open the new tab int he same working directory as the old
one. If I am reading a manpage, the new tab opens up in
scanadf.pl with lineart still distorts. A top-left partial scan (lineart
or color) doesn't distort, but since the distortion happens in bands,
that's not really conclusive. Since using scanadf works for me, I'm not
really motivated doing a few more dozen scans and inspecting them for
distortion,
I can now reproduce it as well, using today's version of the live cd
(amd64). I have no idea what causes this, yet, and it's not important
enough to fix for jaunty, but I'll look into this for karmic.

My laptop has a 10.6 inch screen (1280*768). At home, I have a 22 inch
external screen (1680*1050) attached to it. gnome-display-properties
does not let me set things up so that the screens are mirrored, and the
resolution is set to

I'm using the stock GTK+ list widget for this, and the default way in
which it works is that you have to select the actual tickbox once and
then moving up and down with arrow keys and ticking/unticking with space
works. I thought update-manager did the same thing, but now I see that
it's doing
computer-janitor reports the error message it gets from dpkg, and it
handles and reports explicitly locking, too. (I just verified that.)
Sometimes package installs or (especially) removals fail silently, but
temporarily, because of maintainer scripts, and I suspect this was one
of those cases.
Mirroring means, or used to mean and should mean, that the two screens
show the same thing. Before, the laptop screen would show only as much
as would fit into the top left corner of the full resolution. This is
good for me because when I unplug the external monitor, the screen has
useful stuff on
The code in sysklogd, file ksym.c, seems to be looking for a symbol
Version_[0-9]+ in all System.map-$version files it knows. However, the
Ubuntu map files don't seem to include that symbol.
