It would seem that installing plymouth breaks the system and prevents remote
logins (denial of service) even to admins, possibly incurring travel
necessities to a colocation center hundreds of km away...

Sorry Fabio, I don't know. I've since upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 with this
package installed, but I have no more 9.10 machines to upgrade. I just
ditched the last VirtualBox snapshot of 9.10 earlier this week :-/
However, this event suggests that the turnaround times for reactions to
Ubuntu bug

Greetings,
the 01_fetchmailconf patch to the fetchmail package is bogus and will
break as newer Python versions are imported, because it hardcodes paths
that have changed in Debian (to use dist-packages), upstream reference
Caused by a bogus Ubuntu-specific patch that propagated back to Debian.

This isn't easy to reproduce, but has happened twice.
Situation:
1. evolution starts (and with it gconfd)
2. disk is full
3. evolution is closed.
4. next time evolution is started, it starts the mail account setup wizard.
The only remedy was to

Applications using getaddrinfo() with hints.ai_flags = AI_ADDRCONFIG set
will properly omit IPv6 addresses, HOWEVER they will return duplicate
