Yep, this bug is definitley a Unity bug. When using the Window Switcher
(Meta+W) I can see Gedit, but I cannot see it through Unity's ALT+TAB or
anywhere in the Launcher.

I can confirm this bug in Ubuntu 11.10. I've been experiencing it for
months and I'm truly dissapointed to see that it is still present in

(amd64), and the same thing happens to me after a few days of dist-
upgrading. It does not happen at all on the daily fresh iso. So my
educated guess is that this is related to config files being left around

I can confirm this issue in my Aspire One ZG5 running Karmic.
Unmounting the card before suspending does prevent it to happen,
altough, so I'm currently using the solution pointed out by Noel
