One possibility to revive Shutter would be to crowdfund a professional
to do the necessary development. This worked with Lazarus, a browser
extension for saving web forms: https://github.com/lazarus-
recovery/lazarus_addon/issues/2 In the case of Lazarus the total money
required was about 500$
Lonnie, I completely agree, I also like Shutter a lot and that's why I
am trying to fix it up at least a bit. I think, Shutter can survive till
the big distros abandon Xorg and completely shift to Wayland. However,
somebody would need to take care of packaging Shutter and its
dependencies (which
Jeremy, unfortunately, Shutter's only developer abandoned it several
years ago. It looks like I am the only one who tries to fix it up at
least a little bit (mostly by just applying patches which other people
submitted, because I don't even know perl). A port to GTK3 is completely
out of scope for

user myself, actually), but from the removal entry (first link in my
previous comment) it looks like the reason is that upstream development
is dead and there are no packages in Ubuntu repos which require it

A followup on my report about skypeonlinux: It looks like the problem is
related to some user config in this case. If I create a clean user,
gnome-keyring works as expected. However, I wasn't able to find where
exactly the problematic configuration file is located yet.

I need to correct my previous statement. It looks like skypeforlinux is
actually starting the
gnome-keyring-daemon --start --foreground --components=secrets
command line, it is not there at boot. The
gnome-keyring-daemon --daemonize --login
command line seems to sometimes be there and
I experience the same problem on Manjaro Linux with gnome-keyring
3.20.0+57+g9db67ef6 and skypeforlinux. So it seems to be a bug in gnome-
keyring, not in Ubuntu's package.
Some observations (citing my post on the Manjaro forums

Seeing this when trying to activate the D-Bus plugin on two Manjaro
machines running Compiz 0.9.13.1. Another Manjaro machine and an Arch
Linux machine show no such problem. So, smurf, a workaround is to just
disable the D-Bus plugin in the Compiz settings. However, I'd like to
use the D-Bus

applying the patch (see attached screenshot). Can it also be fixed?

I experience the same bug in Manjaro Linux Xfce with Xfce + Compiz
0.9.13.1. Looking at the latest comment it seems to me that the fix is
only for Mate, but not for Xfce (only mate.ini has been edited for the

As I learned more about dns and proxy, I'd like to withdraw this feature
request for the following reasons:
Remote dns probably requires application support, so it should not be proper to
make it system wide.
Socks5 supports UDP, which functions for DNS proxy, if the proxy also supports
