In xubuntu desktop amd64, reboot and shut down do not work from the
live session. Instead they simply return to the login screen.
Rebooting from the login screen works correctly.

In xubuntu desktop amd64, reboot and shut down do not work from the
live session. Instead they simply return to the login screen. Rebooting
from the login screen works correctly.

Upon starting edubuntu natty alpha 1 amd64, gnome-panel is not started.
This occurs both in the live session on the CD and on an installed
system.
Starting gnome-panel from the terminal (invoked via ctrl+alt+t) works --

This was indeed due to lack of unity support in vbox... I saw that unity
was still an option in the installer and thought that meant edubuntu
would default to the old panel-based desktop. Sorry for the confusion.

FYI, still an issue on a fresh install of 10.10.
For reference, the system also does not mute the internal speakers when
headphones are plugged in. (I think I filed a bug about this but I
don't have the number handy.) Not sure if that's related or not.
