I can confirm both bugs (installer crash and stop at 33%) have been
fixed. The whole installation ran without any problems.

Memory corruption
I have the same problem when trying to use the ubuntu-18.04-server (not live)
image using the installer on VMware ESXi 6.5 - using BIOS or EFI, different
vga= commandline settings don't make a difference.
