Possibly related/duplicates Bug #103025.
I rebuilt alsa-lib 1.0.13-2 from Debian unstable and installed resulting
libasound2 and cracking seems to be gone.
Can anyone of you verify this? Problem seems to be in one of the Ubuntu
provided patches.

sound crackling with feisty libasound2 in
To me it seems that crimsun is right, problem is in alsa-lib. I just rebuilt
alsa-lib from Debian unstable, and with resulting libasound2, there's no
crackin sound anymore.
I'm trying to pinpoint the exact patch that's causing this. Can anyone verify
that rebuilt libasound2 from Debian
It looks like the culprit is debian/patches/63_improved_resampling.dpatch,
after disabling this patches, the sound is normal again.

I can confirm this on Feisty. I'm using Audigy1.
The problem seems to be in /etc/init.d/alsa-utils, when card's volume status is
initialized by calling initscript with 'reset' parameter.
Here's the part from the script that enables Analog/Digital Output Jack for
Audigy:

Okay, thanks for the clarification.
I guess the comment from alsa-utils (1.0.9+1.0.10rc1-1) doesn't apply then
- initscript: Don't set Audigy Analog/Digital Output Jack
The driver should set this up properly
I wonder why Debian leaves these lines commented?

I'm not sure why Debian maintainer decided not to include
naming-factory-dbcp.jar and use commons-dbcp and friends instead,
but if you take a look at the tomcat build script which creates the .jar on the
fly
Here's post from tomcat developer http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL
PROTECTED]/msg11194.html.
You should probably post this issue to Debian bug tracker if you want to get
this issue changed in the Ubuntu package.

It seems that Debian/Ubuntu is using commons-dbcp to provide database
connection pooling services instead.
Does using factory=org.apache.commons.dbcp.BasicDataSourceFactory work for
you?
Here's an excerpt from debian/changelog:
+ Added patch (09_UseSystemDBCP.patch) to use system dbcp
If you don't define factory, tomcat should use commons-dbcp
