I can also confirm this in Ubuntu 9.04. Here is yet another workaround.
After compiling the attached code using gcc OpenUrlFile.c -o
OpenUrlFile.out , I associate it with these files by right clicking on
a *.url file with Properties-Open With-Add-Use a custom command. I
