I noticed something similar. If I switch on my laptop but my access
point is down for some reason, then it takes a long time for network
manager to find and connect to the AP (once I've switched it back on).
I agree that a refresh list option should be available somewhere.

I see this problem too. I have a Toshiba P100 with nvidia 7600 Go
(128MB) ram. Ironically compiz actually seems smoother on my work PC
which doesn't have a graphics card!

I've been using Gimp for the past month or so now with my Wacom Graphire 3 A6
tablet.. I seem to have random slow downs (i.e. the drawing lags behind the
