Hi,
We've just experienced this on the laptop where Dapper worked out of the
box (initially). My girlfriend wanted to try connecting via dial-up and
enabled her modem. When she rebooted, the laptop won't boot properly
anymore. Gdm will still show up but when you log in, it will hang at
some point
/var/log/installer/syslog attachment.

Except that under normal boot it does not even detect my CardBus device at all.
Only the installer from CDROM detects and uses it, using hw-detect which is not
available as an install package, only as unstable source.
This is an old ISA Slot PCMCIA adapter and does not appear under lspci

Sorry about posting the irrelevant information.
I booted with the "noapic" and it fixed the kernel panic but, like Karl
stated, made the mouse very sluggish. Almost unusable. I tried using the
"apic=debug" boot argument but that did not seem to do anything. I can
also confirm that the kernel panic
UPDATE
Swapped from the 2.6.15-26-386 version of the kernel to 2.6.15-26-k7 (to
match my Athlon processor) and my PC now shuts down as expected with no
change to the kernel boot options.

Interesting!
Disconnecting, then reconnecting the camera gives only one of the gthumb
dialogs (the one with three buttons). The dual dialog spawning only
seems to happen when first connecting the camera. I haven't been able to
duplicate it since.

As suggested in the upstream bug, I compiled gstreamer0.10.19, totem and
banshee from source today. I can now confirm that this issue is fixed
upstream since the 0.10.19 release of gstreamer-plugins-base. Dapper
still needs a fix though.

I'll second the fix put forward by madchicken - Option
"XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" clears up the problem for me as well.

When I boot edgy, I see hundreds of error messages, all saying "open: No
such file or directory". It turns out that these are generated by the
log_begin_msg shell function defined in /etc/lsb-base-logging.sh.
log_begin_msg() calls log_daemon_msg(), which uses log_use_usplash(
