i386 install (Pentium III 866MHz coppermine). Graphics card is an old

I replicated the problem installing Dapper from a live cd.
There was a warning on the 43G fat32 partition.
I used Partition Magic to resize it to 29G and the warning
went away so I would guess that there's a problem with
fat32 partitions over 32G.

When I insert a CD (blank or no) my taskbar literally fills up with
"Disk Mounter" CD icons. Using the disk works fine, and there's only one
disc shown in /media (cdrom0). Ejecting the disk removes them.

I'm getting the same with fresh knot2 in a VM. The problem is caused by
KDE's session restore starting up the old instance or instances, along
with a startup or login script starting another instance.
The workaround is to add "guidance-power-manager" without quotation
marks to Session Manager's li
Reinstalling the ubuntu-desktop package fixed the problem for me. Not a
great solution for those who do not want all the default packages
installed again however it works.

It's been ~4 days and the new lyx{,-common} has hit the archive:
> $ apt-cache policy lyx | grep Can
> Candidate: 1.4.2-4
but it seems xdg-utils is still not found:

You are correct -- after installing todays updates, the flickering went
away.

Thanks for the bug report. Are you using ubuntu 6.06 or edgy? What
exactly does the package manager (apt-get/aptitude/synaptic) say when
you try to install it?
