Ah ok good to know. I fugred the respawn is only there to keep that VC
listening when a user exists that VC. But of course it can't respawn a
VC that never existed anyway, so I see why it's safe to leave 'respawn'
uncommented.

/etc/event.d/ and you will see files tty1 -> tt6. Edit all the tty

I can't exactly reproduce this bug, but there's something strange here.
When I add memos in the Memos view, I see them. When I click on Calendar, they
don't appear, but if I select the previous day, they show up. Could you try to
look at previous day in the Calendar ?

The patch seem indeed confirm the reported lockups with M6, M7 and
radeon 7000 so far. David will probably do a new stable release of the
radeon driver including it. I recommend that Ubuntu updates dapper and
edgy drivers with that fix and close this bug.

Let's just make sure we're on the same page -- I can't boot at all
with the upstart grub entry -- I get the error message I mentioned
earlier right away, and when I hit control alt delete to reboot with
the non-upstart grub entry, I get the same error.
When I'm booted into the system, as I am now,
No wifi card here. And the box boots nicely, the bug only prevents it to stop
(or reboot).
The gconf settings are probably lost because the bug is triggered before gconf
had time to store its settings...

In my case, it happened on a fresh boot of the live CD, so definitely no
processes running from a previous login.

I believe with edgy, there is no more /etc/inittab. This is probably
left over from your Dapper install. Edit your /etc/default/console-
setup file. There is a variable called
ACTIVE_CONSOLES="/dev/tty[1-6]" edit that to suite your needs,
reboot and that should fix it for you.

Ok, does "telinit 1" switch you to single user mode ("telinit 2" should
restore you to multi-user with X).
Also does "shutdown -h now" power off the system?

Hmm, looking at it, it seems that this setup is now obsolete and should
have been removed. Probably what happened was that the alternative was
removed before the new artwork was installed, so the alternative was
switched to manual.
Mumble mumble alternatives mumble mumble error-prone...

My observations above were on the live CD in vmware.
On my laptop, the experience seems to be somewhat better, though still
not correct. usplash comes up promptly and counts down for a few
seconds, then disappears and reappears with the progress bar reset
almost to 100%, then reboots
