Well ...
I installed those packages and tried to reproduce the bug and I was not
able to however.
Instead of Control Center Crashing.
*Nine* (9) other applications simultaneously crashed while scrolling
though GTK themes in gnome-theme-manager.

I have the exact same problem: nvidia geforce 7900gt, no logo just

I did not yet try to run apt-get update to keep the situation for more

I made some more tests. I wonder that the Composite option is disabled
in the xorg.conf that I attached - no I can reproduce the effect only by
enabling the Composite option. With disabled Composite option the newest
version of fglrx plays videos in usual speed.

I checked the hardware on my HP nw8240 laptop and the problem occurs
because after suspend to RAM, the 5V power supply to the audio power amp
IC is turned off. This is *not* controlled by the amplifier power down
pin of the AC97 codec as would usually be the case, so nothing you can
do with the AC9
I don't know if it's a Rosetta issue, but there's at least one bug in
Rosetta: the translator-credits field is a single line one, though it
should be multi-line.

OK Mike, I think I have found the problem. After some Googling and
searching on Launchpad, it seems that the VIA K8M800 chipset doesn't
want to play nice with the provided VIA video driver. This is more than
likely caused by VIA's reluctance to provide specs of the chipset to
open source develope
