as it was starting, I did

The standard recognition automatically load and installs the SMP-Kernel
for the Medion MD41300 which has Hyperthreading enabled.
Solve it,
By disabling HT in the BIOS the standard kernel will be loaded and the system
can be installed.

Get the new upstream tar-ball, then try applying the most recent ubuntu-diff
that you can find here: http://packages.ubuntu.com/edgy/admin/dmraid
This way you don't have to reinvent the wheel :)

I personally had to use the hack. Especially on a laptop this feature is dreamy.
I was shocked to see it removed together with them killing the Auto search
feature.
