The Mercury Cyberpix S-550V digital camera's in-built webcam mode does
not work out-of-the-box with the spca5xx driver that comes with Ubuntu.
However, the camera is listed on the compatibility chart -
http://mxhaard.free.fr/spca5xx.html
Downloading, compiling and installin
use alt-enter for going down multiple lines.
But yes, this is a rather odd keymapping.

Just adding info:
Numerous other models like Canon PIXMA iP1000, iP1500 are also not in
the list. iP4000 is in the list but the driver doesn't work with iP1000.
The Canon PIXMA range (especially the lower models like ip1000) are
extremely popular and should be supported out-of-the-box by Ubuntu.

Public bug reported:
When I try to open the software sources from either synaptic or the
"Software Sources" button in the Administration menu, it immediately
closes. It happened right after I changed my sources from Edgy to
Feisty.

Public bug reported:
The weird version number (2.9.10+2.9.9d+e-pre2-5build1) is, as you say,
weird.
It would be nice to see in the Changelog
(https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/edgy/+source/sl-modem/+changelog) that
the package, along with deb/ubuntu patches, is up-to-date respect to:
http://
If it's a problem again, feel free to continue discussing the issue and
we'll work through it again.
Thanks for contributing to Ubuntu.
** Changed in: linux-source-2.6.17 (Ubuntu)

Could you backport 0.9.6 to dapper?
It seems to have fixed the unresponsiveness when burning a cd/dvd.
I've tested with the version found on http://www.getdeb.net
