I was able to run the hplip-1.6.10.run file with sudo. Allthough I had
to install some software with synaptic. But the problem (scanning
multiple documents with the ADF) seems even worse. This is a big problem
for me, and the fastest solution is

I figured out what was different on the to machines, and boy is it lame.
On the non-working machine, I had added /usr/lib/softbeep/libsoftbeep.so
to /etc/ld.so.preload. Apparently, this package is not as clever as it
should be at differentiating between beeps and non-beeps.

I have the same problem as the initial poster in Edgy. If I add a
BrowsePoll line in my cupsd.conf, cupsd starts eating all the CPU it can
get. If I remove the line and restart, it goes back to normal.
The server pointed to by the BrowsePoll line works fine, which I

I observed another konqueror freeze/hang while clicking on a pdf link
from a web page.
This time the konqueror process was running ~2h and only 2 tabs were
open.

I get 100% CPU usage without patching anything, I only have to enable
BrowsePoll.
Maybe the reason for the 100% CPU usage is that it can't connect
properly to the spawned cups-polld,

before taking this to the gnome folks I was trying rule out a connection
between glibc and the above mentioned gcc bug by recompiling glibc with gcc 3.4
(because __generic_mutex_lock DOES use some inline asm code and could match the
gcc bug).
However, that seems to be beyond my current skills.

I m connecting to remote ssh/sftp host which is solaris9-sparc machine.
I ve found that nautilus stays busy (shows busy mouse cursor) when
opening folders which contain any soft links. Folders without soft links
are displayed correctly.
gnomevfs-ls behaves in the same way.
Also, I've checked TIME field just before exiting from playing
(CTRL-C), it's the same time that 'user' field reported by 'time'.
I mean TIME field of command top :)

I just had a look at the gdm translation in rosetta.
It's fubarred!
In any case, the relevant mgsid _Hibernate was according to Rosetta
wrongly translated to _Slaapstand by a person called Rintze Zelle on
2006-03-22.
But this module has fallen victim of the Rosetta/Launcpad/whatever bug where it

Appears to be fixed with in libqt4-core 4.2.1-2ubuntu1
After updating today, it got the new libqt4 and it doesn't crash
anymore.

I have been trying to get the sound working on my laptop with no luck.

To reiterate, my problem is that trash does not work for my home
directory. The problem is with both the Trash Applet and Nautilus. If I
mount a floppy or a USB stick or whatever, trash works correctly for
those mounts. However, trash will not work for my home directory.

My system fades in kernel panic on reboot command.
There are many messages, one of those BUG: warning at
kernel/exit.c:855/do_exit()
Another is Warning at dvivers/char/etc/2865/do_unblank_screen()
Ubuntu 6.10 (amd64).
2.6.17-10-generic.
Core 2 Duo E6400 CPU.
I do not khow how to capture screen
from the bug package you can click on the task, it'll expand the
settings for it and you can change the source package name. What does
softbeep has to do with gconf though?
