modules-2.6.17-10-generic package? And how can I build the restricted
modules package myself for my own kernel?

Whats interesting is that the log entry in auth.log appears every time
kdesu adept_manager is run, no matter if it starts and works 100% or
fails.

xfapplet depends on gnome-applets, although it doesn't need it
Without a resume=UUID=... update to my menu.lst file (for grub),
none of this worked. (Alas, maybe one could do a resume=/dev/hdxx and
it would probably work, too.)

Perhaps you used a directory name without trailing slash

I was just debugging a driver module on an i386 machine (debian3.1
2.6.7) , gdb on my ubuntu 6.10 (amd x86_64) crashed. At that point, my
driver is just about do printk.
I guess it's reasoned 32 vs 64.

#76804 mentioned a workaround in #76872; I tried that and it works! I
got DMA enabled in five consecutive boots, so it is probably fixed now.
So I guess you could mark both #76872 and #76911 as duplicates of

That's correct, but Amarok requires kdebase-kio-plugins and libdbus-qt
and will not work with media devices without them.

adding noapic nolapic to the kernel boot options in
/boot/grub/menu.lst seems to solve the following problems for me:
complete system freeze / lockup / crash when:
- closing the laptop lid
- pressing either FN+UP or FN+DOWN
- unplugging the power supply (changing to battery power)

As to why I think it's the notification popups, this is because after a
fresh install, after logging in you get an 'updates' notification right
away. Most of the time if I was quick I could click a menu before that
appeared and that click worked, however after the notification had
popped up

It happened also to me using Ubuntu Edgy. I have just installed dvdrip,
opened it by the firt time and confirmed the proposed settings. After
that, it crashes.
