the gconfd-2 process was started by the gnome-control-center and is
still running as the same process number now after an hour. this may be
expected, but its not something i've noticed previously, " ps -e |grep
gconf" doesnt show up at all until gnome-control-center is running and
been shut down

I've got a video of this in the works. I'll probably redo it, though, because
it is enormous and without commentary.
Currently using the latest kernel with Feisty, and it is still happening.
For now, I'll describe another chunk of this which I have noticed.
If I switch to another virtual terminal

Sorry for the double post. My system transmits random messages - one of
which was a page-back to the tab with my message on it. I thought the
comment hadn't gone through and so pressed 'Submit' again.
Again, my apologies.

My Yuan PD300 mini usb stick tv card does not work in Ubuntu (Dapper,
Edgy or Feisty so far).
Initially there were some problems in the code which have now been fixed
after some collaboration with the linuxtv.org people. The changes are
included in the 2.6.19 & 2.6.20 kernels
