I have almost the same problem. I installed it once correctly, but while
I was trying to configure it properly, the program started to fail. Then
I removed it and next time I have tryed to install it I get the same
error...

Thanks for your report. This is also bug 76976, and has since been
fixed; run 'sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install ubiquity' from a
terminal window before starting the installer to pick up the fix.

During the installation of feisty-desktop-i386 install, I got a error that
pop-up on the screen that was saying :
The ext3 file system creation in partition #1 of IDE4 master (hdg) failed
I clicked OK and the installation stopped right there.

During the installation process of the feisty herd 2 CD for i386
desktop, the application suddenly blurs the screen between the keyboard
layout selection and defining the username. As a workaround, specifying
the kernel option vga=771 prevents this problem from occuring.
