I'm seeing identical problems.
Here its affecting two Sony Vaios: PCG-SRX41 and PCG-SRX51 (only
difference is CPU clock and RAM) which are equivalent to the SRX99.
They have the Intel 82815 CGC rev 11 chipset with a native 1024x768
panel.
This is the default Edgy 6.10 (2.6.17-10) kernel
I can confirm this problem against Ubuntu Feisty Herd 2 with a Radeon
Mobility M6.
Unfortunately the patch mentioned is taken from two years ago, I think
it may no longer be valid.

As I reported in http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=341532 the
crash exists in 20070120 amd64 desktop (as a VM guest).
In previous daily builds installing the available distribution updates
permanently removed this particular crash, on subsequent reboots.
The crash notification says
I can confirm that
1) this bug exists, and that
2) it's caused by forms having a 'password' field without a 'login'
field. I managed to trigger it by fiddling around with a ruby on rails
page I am creating. When I added in a 'login' field, everything started
working again.

Sebastian, I was just going to enter a long ranty bug report (as in

work area, I clicked stop and then close and gaim closed
unexpectedly. I'm sending the big bug report
new compiz 0.3.6 doesn0t seem affected by this bug. I might be wrong
because I'm not able to start the window managed now, because it
crashes. And the problem might be caused by it.

Then the problem may be that Edgy comes with the outdated Glom 1.2.0.

Then I have enabled auto.net in /etc/auto.master, restarted autofs and
it did not work - I was only able to cd /net.
After a short while of debugging I have found that there is neither

Today I fixed this issue with the earlier explained symlink on my Edgy
machine. Kxkb seems at the moment in the stable release at version
3.5.2. Its quiet confusing for me, why this bug isn't solved in Edgy.
