To clarify - it is the group ID (PGID) that is the same, not the PID. A
simple ps -ej in the terminal shows each process with its own PID,
everything launched from the gnome enviornment sharing a PGID but other
programs with different ones, and most everything sharing the SID.

I'm by no means an expert when it comes to this stuff... but by skimming
through the link that Tormod posted, it appears that there's in a bug in
the kernel(s) that have to do with our hardware being recognized as
SCSI? (i.e /dev/sd*), which makes sense because my partitions are
recognized as sda1

I had to re-install herd 4 today, visited the same web site, but now
application shows the Totem Browser Plugin (however - I still need to figure

X.org 7.2 causes Xgl to glitch like crazy in Feisty's official
repositories. A rebuild of it is required to restore operation, but the
current version FTBFS'es against Feisty xorg 7.2
