After further investigation, it seems that the problem is actually
caused by a broken redirect on the Compiz website. The URLs in the
documentation are all well-formed and it's not Firefox-specific either

Same problem here. CPU fan always on with Feisty.The same happen with
fglrx or open source driver. I use the laptop always in powersave mode,
bay the fan never stop. With edgy it started every 20 minutes for 2.

I can confirm this on Feisty. The linux 2.0.0.3 binary downloaded from
mozilla.org works fine, so it seems to be a Ubuntu-specific issue (non-

Hmmm.that is strange. The install was on a computer belonging to my
friend. So, I cannot attach the logs now, but I can try and make a dual-
boot on an XP computer again, and give the status on that. When I tried
to edit the Windows partition, the only options were Use as and Mount
Point.
Bug 105437 observation holds the key to my LITE-ON problems:
- solves the delay problem;
- creates /dev/scd0 and mounts scd0 as a cdrom; and
- also allows /dev/scd0 to work as a cdrw.

I tested this with php5 5.1.2-1ubuntu3.2 on dapper and could not
reproduce this.
Is this problem still current or fixed by the updates ?

You are right. Just logged me of and logged on again: it isn't the
.emerald-directory. The same problem just occurred again (still: only the last
that doesn't work)
Was thinking what i did else in the previous session: I changed the
backgroundpicture for my gnome-desktop. Have repeated this:

I had the same problem, the crash occurred during the installation of
vim-runtime (from /var/log/dpkg.log).
A few packages before dpkg failed to install j2re1.4 (I forgot to accept the
license terms).
I did the following :
rm /var/lib/dpkg/lock
rm /var/cache/apt/archives/lock
dpkg --configure

Hmm on Feisty Flash 9 is the default version.. Strange..
Can you please check which version of flash you are using Jolande, you
can do this by typing 'about:plugins' in the address bar.

I tested it in Feisty, and it works like a charm. xrandr returns the
right refresh rates, as does the gui tool, and the resolution changes
work.
However, I noticed several other resolution-related bugs, which I'll
file in a fresh bug ;).

Unfortunately I did not find a way to reproduce this. It seems to happen
completely random. Most of the time however, the distortion concerns
save file dialogs. But I have seen this in evolution and in the panel
as well.
